Self Portrait in Ink...

Here is a self portrait I did today as inking practice.

You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way"
-Pink Floyd, Time
Story of my life, man.
And here is some more inking practice, a view from my porch. Colored on the computer.

In the zone...

I am in the zone now. I have been drawing like a fiend. Finally feel like I am getting warmed up. I have been thinking about my job at the bookstore, and I really do think it has taken some bit of my soul away. And I think I want it back.

I am working tomorrow morning, but then I am off till Saturday morning and I am going to draw until my comic is finished.

Here is a quick little sketch of Conan I did in class today with watercolor pencils.

Zoned Out...

I did not feel quite right today. I think I am suffering from sleep deprivation. I haven't been sleeping enough, maybe 4 or 5 hours a night. It's starting to catch up with me. Everything seemed like it was in a haze today.

Did some sketches this afternoon before I went to work, sitting on the porch.

I'd like to work out a better quick pencil technique for trees. I'll do some experiments this week.

And here is a pic from a RPG project - a psychic hippie terrorist, Flake. Not too too happy with it, going to give it another crack tonight. Don't totally hate it, just think I can do better.

Today was a good day.

Today was a good day.

Went to work, no major trauma. Skipped out at about 2:00, headed into Boston. Hit Newbury Comics near government center, grabbed a couple of comics, and sat in the park for a couple of hours. It was a bit chilly and drizzly, a nice change from the heat and humidity of the past couple of days.

I got a lot of work done in class for my comic. Finished the rough layouts for the first six or so pages, and worked out a lot of the dialogue, too. I just need to get some full size bristol and some vellum to get really started on the pencils and inking. I am seriously thinking of springing for a light table. Don't know where the hell I am going to find a power socket for it.

Two more classes to go, and I plan on having the first eight pages of my book inked and colored by the last class. Definitely at least four, but I am going for eight, which is basically the first act of the first issue. A teaser, of sorts.

Learned a couple of good inking techniques. I want to do more stippling, did some interesting little sketches in class. Need more practice. Here is a random doodle that became face-like.

Going to attempt a self portrait using stippling at some point.

When I got back to Oak Grove station, who do I run into but Mr. Josh and Mr. Shawn, who I have been out of contact with for a couple of months now. They were heading into town to meet Mr. Josh's brother for a drink. I tagged along. Went to chili's. Had a margarita. Merriment was had by all. Hanging out with them again on Saturday. Nintendo and beer. Good to see them sons of bitches again.

Haven't talked to Sarah in a couple of days and I miss her terribly. I said I would give her space, and I will. She can still send an email or text message just to say hi if she wanted to, wink wink, nudge nudge.

Peace out.

In Dreams Burning...

Dusk.
The sky burns in purples and reds
Clouds ooze overhead at hurricane speed
Foul shapes metastasize the air, loose collections of water vapor in terrible form
A bloated and bulbous whale and her vile pup swim through the sky at impossible velocity
An horrible, grotesque mockery of a ray, claws protruding from its belly, crawls from the depths of the horizon, ever upward.
The first stars, pinpoints of white light, fade to crimson. And the world burns.
A sensation of failure and loss, utter hopelessness and despair.

I had a really, really strange dream the other day.

I like coffee.

Yep. I like coffee. My preferred cup is a large iced hazelnut with cream no sugar from dunkin' donuts. It's an excellent beverage; cold, refreshing, and caffeinated.

Left Work Early, Skipped Class...

Today, I left work at about 2:00. I went into town to go to my class, and I stopped in the park. I just lay down on the grass and watched the sky. It was so nice I out, I decided to bail on my class for today. Wasn't feeling the creative spark today.

Younger?

Sarah says my self portraits make me look old. Here is one that I hope looks younger:
